Local exhibition

Hello Everyone,  I’ve been very busy in my spare hours designing, printing and sewing for Beetroot Press’ new AW14 pieces.  And most of them will be on show at an exhibition this May bank holiday weekend, at local gallery; Cock Harbour.

Places to visit in Worcestershire_cotswolds_galleries

The gallery is set back down a country lane in South Littleton, near Evesham, held in two lovely old buildings.  Usually view by appointment, owner and dealer Colin Bomford, puts on a show every year to invite people to come and browse and have a glass of fizz in a relaxing atmosphere.

I’ve added a few quick snaps I took on my phone to show you some of the new items.  Hopefully I’ll have time to photograph properly at the exhibition.  See below for new fox print; Sleepy Hollow which will be on cushions and canvas’, make up bags made from my prints and vintage fabrics, new tea towel and napkin designs.  There will be lots of new things to see, all printed with water based inks and on sustainable fabrics.

I realised I have a slight obsession with chairs, they do make other products but I unconsciously picked all chairs to show you…

Chipping Campden Christmas market

christmas markets in cotswolds beetroot press

Hello again, the Upton House Christmas market went well last weekend.  I took a few snaps before the visitors started arriving.  They had Santa’s grotto and carol singers, and their own little shop was full of nice things to buy.

This coming Saturday 7th December 2013 we will be in the Cotswold town of Chipping Campden selling at the Christmas market there.

I found this old postcard of Chipping Campden, and have to say it looks pretty much the same still!   The market will be open on Friday 6th at 3pm till 8pm, then again on Saturday 10am until 5pm (we will only be there on the Saturday).

Deer illustration by Beetroot Press

I hope the weather is better on saturday as it’s very blustery out there today, all my prints and cards will blow away!  The Deer print above is a new addition and will be making his debut at the fair on Saturday – (he’s a bit scared so please be nice to him).  Pop along if you are near by and say hello.

Tinsmiths in Ledbury

tinsmiths shop ledbury

I had been wanting to visit this shop for ages, and then to my delight I realised it is only about 50 minutes away from my new(ish) home in the Cotswolds.  It’s home is the market town of Ledbury, near the Malvern hills, which is close to Worcester, Gloucester and Hereford itself.  I went just before Christmas last year 2012 to have a look around and to see the shop.

It’s a pure joy to visit, I had been feeling a bit starved of good design-wares and had needed the visual fix!  Tinsmiths sell a range of fabrics by the meter from linens to cord, upholstery fabrics, all very high quality.  I bought some ticking fabric in duck egg for a stocking I made for my friends baby last Christmas. They also stock St Judes fabrics and prints, which I absolutely love to bits.  Within the shop they also sell homeware, useful items which are beautiful and timeless; Cushions, blankets and throws, clocks, rugs, kitchenware, dining, design led tea-towels, stationary, hardware, baskets, Lighting and Artist prints including Mark Hearld, Emily Sutton and Angie Lewin.  Even if you visited just to see the actual building, you’d be impressed.  To find out more about Timsmiths look here.

Ledbury in itself is a lovely old fashioned feeling town with tudor style buildings.  There’s a number of butchers, bakers, chocolate shops, delicatessen and pubs to choose from.  Other shops include an organic food store, and a lovely cider shop called Three counties cider, where you can take the tap cider or perry home in a 4 pint ceramic jug which can be used over and over, or bring your own vessel to use.

There is also a market selling locally made produce, home grown foods, free range eggs, baked goods, chutneys, jams, flowers.

Perfect place to visit for a bit of (dare I say it) Christmas shopping!

The Game Fair

I spent the weekend before last at The Game Fair, it was a bit chilly in the morning, but warmed up nicely at lunchtime.  There was quite a bit to see, and lots of shopping, I’ve included some of the best bits below….

express eventing Beetroot Press blog

The Express eventing was great to watch, after seeing  the ‘dancing horses’ on the olympics, I wanted to see it in the flesh.

There were different levels of riders, all made it fun with their choice of music.

There were hound dogs on show too, with some rare breeds like the Otter hound.

These Otterhounds are an old British dog breed, an endangered scent hound, who were developed to hunt otters.  There are only about 1000 left.

This is Cavelier, a hunter horse.  He’s having some new shoes fitted by the farrier.

I love Barn owls and this little fella was a friendly chap.

Falconry Beetroot Press

These birds of prey are absolutely beautiful animals, a bit scary too!  You can go on Winter Hawking days, or Summer Falconry days out in Warwickshire where you go in small groups flying the birds in lovely countryside near Stoneleigh.  The company is called Falconry Days and the trip includes lunch and afternoon tea, I think it’s a wonderful gift idea.  Click here for the website to find out more.

It was a good day out, we got free tickets to the event, so even better!  The best bits for me were definitely seeing the animals and looking at the foodie bits and homeware stalls.  There were quite a lot of stalls selling the same sort of thing clothing wise, but we just bypassed them (although I did purchase a new panama hat for myself)!

Gifts for teachers

Gifts for teachers_FolksyHappy day today when I went onto Folksy and saw the Beetroot Press ‘Apple for the Teacher’ tea-towel on their front page!  It got me thinking about what other things teachers would love to get at the end of the school year….I have a lot of friends that are teachers, most of them are stationary freaks, and very organised indeed.

Organic cotton pencil case organic cotton pencil case_the little deer

These pencil cases are so cute, I would def get one for myself (even though for kids)!  I found them online, in a Belgium shop called The little Zebra who sell items for trendy kids.  They have some really cute stuff on there.

February Design stamp on etsy

I found this super cool stamp for teachers!  The Etsy shop, called February Designs has created a few fabulous stamps for teachers, plus more, and is based in Texas, USA.

ink and thread recycled notebooks

These recycled notebooks are beautiful and the perfect present for that stationary loving teacher.  They are designed and made in Britain available from Ink and Thread who sell products only made within the UK.

glasses cases sarah waterhouse

These hand-printed glasses cases, in a range of colours are sold on Etsy by Sarah Waterhouse within the UK.  Made from a cotton and hemp mix and lined with a matching gingham, they’re a perfect fun sustainable gift.  Could be used in school for reading glasses or on their summer hols for a cute sunglasses case!

tomato plant beetroot press

What about giving them something to look after in the holidays?  A tomato plant is a good idea as you can grow them in pots if they dont have much space, they just need watering and maybe a cane to support, then you have all these lovely tomatoes to eat throughout the summer.  Try Sutton’s seeds for a vegetable plant, or for a seed packet that you and your little ones can grow together as a gift for your teacher that loves to potter in the garden (and keep some yourselves).

gifts for teachers Beetroot Press wall art

Here’s ‘An Apple a day’ wall art print, soon to be in the Beetroot Press Etsy shop (sneek peek)!  They are ready to print, onto white archival paper, so if you wanted one as a gift for that special teacher, just send me a message and I’ll happily sort one out for you.

And not to forget Owl, he comes in a choice of colours from the Beetroot Press Etsy and Folksy shops.

If you have any other ideas about what would make good teachers gifts, (or if you are a teacher and have a preference), add your comments below.

Children’s traditional handmade gifts

I am very excited to announce that Beetroot Press is now on the u-ni-k gifts online shop!  U-ni-k sell handmade “gifts to be treasured by this generation and the next”.  They have a wonderful array of handmade and bespoke products, made with exquisite craftsmanship, which are perfect for children.  Their ethos is selling items that you will treasure forever and want to pass down to the next, and the next…and the next generation of little people.

U-ni-k was started, and is run by Anna and Sarah, two friends that met at their local NCT group in Surrey.  They wanted to provide a place for parents to buy traditional heirloom gifts that are handmade.  Where possible they use small UK based makers who mostly use materials from sustainable sources.  Take a look at their about page to find out a bit more.  Both Anna and Sarah are fun loving individuals who really care about handmade and local products.
